Janet Webb, creator and owner of VintageGaze Magazines shared her vision:

    VintageGaze Magazines
is a hobby site used to display my collection of vintage women’s magazines. My goal is to share the wonderful iconic images from the 50’s and 60’s found in these magazines.  I wanted the images to be the star of the show, so a simple and clean site was a necessity. The Best Brand theme was exactly what I was looking for.

On choosing Best Brand and working with it Janet added:

I found the theme to be whitespace perfect and font fabulous.  A responsive-theme was a must and this theme delivered. The behind-the-scenes theme functionality was also useful for my site, which is primarily data-driven.  I took full use of Superfish menu functionality, breadcrumbs, and the assorted canned blocks available with the theme. Between the MtT components and the power of Drupal modules, I was able to implement the site without any back-end customization.

Janet went on explaining in more detail the technical side of creating VintageGaze Magazines:

    The site
uses Views to display the content. I created three content types. The first I called Magazine. This holds data related to the magazine (name, tagline, and publisher). The second I called Magazine Issue. It holds data specific to a magazine issue (month, year, magazine cover, table of contents). It is has a node reference to Magazine.  The third I called Item. It has a node reference to Magazine Issue. It contains all the specific information related to each item posted. I categorize each item as either an Ad, an Article, or Fiction Illustration.  The Item content type uses the Drupal taxonomy functionality to organize the data by Author, Illustrator, Photographer, etc.  My process is to scan the magazine page, crop the images, and then simply post the content. The images are sized to look good on this website as well as social media image sites such as Pinterest and Tumblr.

Janet shared her passion for her hobby, the site and Drupal:

Since it is a hobby site, I don’t have the time I wish I had to devote to adding more content and making the site better. However, I am proud of the fact that it is ad-free and a good example of how to use the power of Drupal to organize content.

    About the theme:
